What is the Post Graduate Center?
The primary purpose of the Post Grad Center is to assist seniors with their college application process. There are computer resources and printed reference materials available for students researching their college choices. SAT and ACT test registration and practice materials are available, as well as practice books for Advanced Placement test subjects. Throughout the school year, particularly before Fall Break, college admissions representatives visit our Center to meet interested students. The College Visit Calendar can be viewed through the link at left and on the Calendar tab on the Post Grad Home page. Students may sign up for college visits through their Naviance account at http://connection.naviance.com/castleview. A User Name and password are required to enter this program; if students have forgotten their log-in information, they may contact Post Grad for help.
The Post Grad Secretary keeps files in Naviance for students containing original recommendation letters and test scores. Most colleges now have their applications available online and many prefer that students apply electronically. Once students have completed the application(s), either on paper or online, they should follow the procedure outlined in College Applications Made Easier. Students must request official transcripts for all applications they have submitted using the colleges tab in Naviance.
Student Athletes interested in participating in sports in college, should read the information regarding the NCAA Clearinghouse on the NCAA Clearinghouse tab at left and check NCAA regulations at http://eligibilitycenter.org/ECWR2/NCAA_EMS/NCAA.html.
Underclassmen are always welcome to use the college resources available in Post Grad as well.
COLLEGE APPLICATIONS MADE EASIER BY UTILIZING THE CVHS POST GRAD CENTER
Find college applications on college websites or in the Post Grad Center. Log on to Naviance and add college names to your "Colleges I am Applying To". Complete the FERPA (Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act) permission in Naviance to allow electronic transmission of your transcript and other documents. See Mrs. Anderson or your Counselor if you need help logging on to Naviance.
Complete the "Student Profile for Letters of Recommendation" (in Naviance, "about me") for colleges that require any teacher recommendations. Print your completed Student Personal Profile and give a copy to your teacher (if requested) at least 3-4 weeks before application deadline. Ask the teacher(s) to submit his or her recommendation and complete any required forms through Naviance.
Complete one Transcript Request in Naviance ("colleges" > "colleges I'm applying to") for each application you submit. Bring your transcript payment to Post Grad at least 10 School days before application deadline. Each transcript request costs one dollar ($1.00).
A counselor's signature, official transcript, test score info and recommendation letters will be compiled in Post Grad and the application packet will be sent directly to the college or university by the Post Grad Secretary. In many cases you can track the status electronically in your Naviance.
Any mid-year grade report forms or requests should be given to Post Grad with your application or as soon as you receive them. Requests will be fulfilled as soon as mid-year grades are available to be sent out.
Scholarship applications are handled in the same manner as college applications and require a Transcript Request in Naviance.
