Survival Skills Course

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Castle View High School is excited to announce a great opportunity for our incoming 9th graders and returning 10th graders. The “Survival Skills” program is designed to assist students who may have a history of achieving below their academic potential. Incoming 9th graders and 10th grade students who have demonstrated a lack of the pre-requisite skills to be successful in high school are encouraged to enroll in this intervention program. This eight day course will be offered Tuesday through Friday, May 29 – June 7 and Monday through Thursday July 23 - August 2 from 8-10:30 am. The cost for the class is $150.00. Registration forms will be available on the Castle View web site on and can be turned in with full payment at Castle View beginning May 14. For more information contact 303-387-9015.

Data from the Colorado Department of Education shows that one out of every four high school graduates in 2003 required remedial courses in college. Of these students in remedial courses, 74% never received a college diploma. High school courses are built on a structure of increasing skills and more complex content. Success in early coursework gives students the required skills and knowledge needed to be successful in their future courses. Success breeds success!

Because Castle View High School is committed to providing opportunities for students to achieve their goal of high school graduation, we are offering this very valuable summer opportunity.  Students are strongly encouraged to make sure they have a firm foundation of skills and knowledge so they are prepared for success in high school.

Sincerely,

Kevin Gardner
