TESTING

CVHS Counseling will coordinate the following tests during 2011-2012:

CSAP

The Colorado School Assessment Program consists of a series of tests given to freshman and sophmores to measure individual progress on the Colorado Model of Content Standards. The tests cover reading, writing, mathematics, and science and are given in the spring of each year. The results of these tests are used by the state as a part of the school report card that was mandated in Senate Bill 00-186.

PLAN

The Plan is a practice ACT test which is taken by all sophomore students in the Douglas County School District. It includes a student inventory and information about planning future course work.

PSAT

The PSAT is the practice SAT test which is also used by the College Board as the qualifying test for identifying National Merit Scholarships (top 97% - 99%). The PSAT test is normally taken by juniors. If taken as a sophmore, the score is considered practice and does not qualify for the scholarship. Click here for additional information.

ACT

The American College Testing exam (ACT) is an exam taken by students for college admission.  It is a state mandate that all juniors be given this exam at all high schools in the spring. The ACT has four subtests: English, Math, Reading, and Science Reasoning.  Visit http://www.actstudent.org/ to prepare for the test.

SAT

The Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT) is another general exam that can be taken for college admissions.  Whereby most colleges accept either SAT or ACT, it is wise to check with the colleges. The exam includes critical reading, writing and math.  To register for the SAT test, visit http://www.collegeboard.com/

SAT II /SUBJECT TESTS:

The SAT II is only required at certain colleges, generally those of more selectivity. These one hour tests are available in a variety of subjects and consist of primarily multiple-choice questions.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTS:

This year Castle View will be offering several AP courses to the students. Those who take these courses have the option of taking an AP test in the specific content area to receive potential college credit.

Test Preparation Programs:

It is important to know what programs are available. However, it is also important to know that taking a "prep" program does not ensure higher tests scores.
