5/11 – Senior Check-out (Required)
The final check-out process is very important.  We use this information to determine the graduate has fulfilled all requirements and can graduate with his/her class on May 21.  As your student completes final examinations and other obligations for each class (paying fines, turning in books, materials, turning in athletic uniforms, etc.) each teacher will signify the fulfillment of these obligations by signing the check-out sheet in the appropriate space provided.  Students will also receive a Behavior Expectations for Graduation form that will need both the student’s and parent/guardian signature.  Signatures on the check-out sheet are also required from personnel in the Post Grad Center, Media Center and Athletics and these can be done throughout the week.  Students will obtain the bookkeeper’s signature AFTER you have obtained all teachers signatures.  (Participation in the graduation ceremony will be denied unless ALL outstanding fees or fines are paid by cash or credit card.)  Your counselor’s signature is the last signature to be obtained.

  • 11:15-1:30         Check-out in the gym – Counselors, post-grad and bookkeeping will be available.
  • Cap & Gown Pick-up – Graduates who have completed the check-out process cab pick up their cap and gown in  the gym.

  • 2:20-2:55           Senior Farewell Assembly in the gym.

  • Sunset Activities will begin at sunset.  Student Government has planned a full evening of events on the upper athletic fields.

Failure to complete the check-out procedure will jeopardize the senior’s participation in the graduation ceremony.  Please be aware that by the Board of Education policy, all graduation requirements must be met 48 hours prior to the graduation ceremony.  The deadline to meet requirements for the Class of 2012 is 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012.  Board of Education requirements include: academic requirements (including 20 hours documented community service); monetary (no outstanding fines or monies owed); attendance at graduation practice.

5/15 – Senior Awards

7:00 p.m. in the gym.

If you have a senior that will be receiving an award, you will get a card in the mail to attend this ceremony.

If you have received any scholarships or awards as a senior, please let the post grad center know.

5/17 – Transcript Deadline

Any classes that need to be added to your transcript need to be completed and submitted to the registrar by 2:00 p.m.  These include online classes, Odysseyware and BYU classes.

5/18
  • Senior Breakfast – 8:00 a.m. in the commons.  There is no charge for this breakfast but seniors only please!

  • Senior Meeting (required) – 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium.

  • Graduation Rehearsal (REQUIRED) – Graduation rehearsal will be after the senior meeting on the CVHS football field.  Rehearsal will last approximately 45 minutes.  Graduation rehearsal is mandatory for all graduates participating in the graduation ceremony on May 21st.  (A suggestion: After rehearsal, ask your student where he/she is sitting.  This information will allow you to seat yourself in a position in the amphitheatre where you can best see your graduate.)

5/21 – Graduation – 2:00 p.m. Red Rocks Amphitheatre

  • Location/Directions/Time – Graduation will be held at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on May 21, 2012, at 2:00 p.m.  Gates will open at 1:00 p.m.  Red Rocks seats 9,000 therefore, NO TICKETS ARE REQUIRED, except for special needs seating (tickets for the special needs person and one guest will be provided at rehearsal).  Red Rocks is an outdoor amphitheatre with bench seating and many stairs.  The ceremony should last approximately 2 hours.  The Class of 2012 will be transported as a group to Red Rocks on school buses.  All graduates are required to ride the bus.
  • Graduate Attire – Girls will wear dresses or nice slacks, according to the weather.  Because of the amount of walking and climbing, shoes should be low-heeled or flat but no flip flops.  Boys will wear slacks with a white or light-colored dress shirt, tie and dress shoes.  Shorts, blue jeans, tennis shoes and sandals not appropriate.  Any graduate found to be inappropriately dressed will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.  Graduates may not wear any item (other than honor cords or stoles) with, or on their gown, nor may they decorate their mortarboard.
  • Facilities at Red Rocks – The seats are wooden benches on concrete.  Guests should bring something to sit on (blanket, pad, etc.) if concerned about their clothing.  Please plan for a variety of weather conditions.  Remember we are in the mountains in the spring and it gets cold in the evening.  Red Rocks has added numerous restrooms, as well as a new visitor center.  Alcohol is not allowed during the school event.
  • Parking at Red Rocks – Red Rocks parking staff will direct you to the nearest available lot.  Be prepared to walk a distance to access the seating area.  The charge for parking is $10.00.  If you need to access the shuttle for special needs guests, please inform the attendant.
  • Special Needs Seating – There is limited (270) seating for special needs guests in the first three rows (in front of the graduates.)  Tickets are required for special needs guests.  Forms to request these tickets can be picked up in the main office.  Vehicles with state-issued handicapped placards will be allowed to park in the designated handicap areas.  When arriving at the park, please ask any of the parking staff to direct you to the lot where you may access the Handicapped Shuttle.  Shuttles will take the guests with special needs to the back stage entrance where they will go up a 30 foot ramp to the seating area.  Red Rocks will start filling the handicapped parking in the upper south lot first.  This is where the shuttle will pick up special needs guests.  The shuttle will move to the Trading Post lot only when the upper south handicapped lot is full.  Only one family member may accompany and sit with the guest with special needs.  Other family members must walk to the theatre, enter and sit with all other guests in the rows behind graduates.  We will begin shuttling these guests at 6:00 p.m. to allow plenty of time to be seated.  The ceremony will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m.  The shuttles will take guests back to the parking lots after the ceremony at approximately 4:00 p.m.  You also have the choice of driving to the top circle lot and dropping off your special needs guest and then returning to park in one of the parking lots.  From the top, your guest will need to walk down a slight incline to the seats at the top of the theatre.  Someone in your group will need to accompany this guest.  All family members may sit together at the top with special needs guests.
  • Graduate (& Guest) Behavior – The graduation ceremony is a celebration for families and students.  The ceremony will be a dignified event to remember for a lifetime.  The graduating Class of 2012 has been instructed on the correct behavior that is expected of them.  Similarly, dignified behavior is also expected of all guests and spectators.  Excessive applause, cheering for a specific student or the use of air horns or noise makers, or other distractions diminishes the experience for all students and families.  Please be sensitive to this fact.  Standing in the south aisle will not be permitted during the ceremony.  Spectators will not be allowed up or down the aisle below row 11 during the awarding of diplomas.
  • Photography/Video – A professional photographer will be photographing each senior as he/she receives his/her diploma.  These photos will be available from the photographer (proofs will be e-mailed to you the day after the ceremony.)  Students will receive information about the purchase of videos/DVDs and photos.  During the ceremony the aisles must be kept clear for movement of the graduates.  Standing in the south aisle will not be permitted during the ceremony.  Spectators will not be allowed up or down the aisle below row 11 during the awarding of diplomas.
